Here are the typical causes of difficulty in saving your DUN password:

Usually, the lack of the Client for Microsoft Networks in Network
Properties causes the "remember password" box to be greyed out. (Note that
this is NOT the same as MSN.) If you do have the greyed out box, add the
client and it should solve the problem. If not, it is likely to be one of the
following:

1. You are seeing the startup password dialog box at boot and are pressing
CANCEL to bypass it. This prevents the password file(s) from being loaded for
subsequent use by DUN and other applications. Press ENTER instead.

2. You have installed Service Pack 1 but not the Password Upgrade which fixes a bug in the Service Pack that corrupts the password file. Get the Password
Upgrade (at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/software/updates.htm) and install
it. Then delete your password file (\windows\Your_User_ID.pwl) and restart
Win95 to recreate it. Make sure you do not press CANCEL on the startup
password dialog. A User_ID and a blank (null, empty) password will stop the
dialog box from coming up anymore if that is what you want. Re-enter all your DUN and other passwords and check the save boxes. The passwords will be saved after the first successful connection.

3. The password file has been corrupted even if not by the Service Pack 1
bug. Follow the directions of step two above (omitting the Service Pack and
the Password Upgrade) to correct it.

If it is none of the above, go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base web site at
http://www.microsoft.com/kb/ and enter "save password". Out of the several
articles on this subject, there are details there on problems which
can only be fixed in the registry.
