Updating Your Website On ARQ
By Tom Thomas
Director of Support Services

For the ARQ customers that take advantage of the Web space provided with their dial-up access, we have some pertinent information on how to access your Web site for updates. We updated our servers this past month and in doing so, the FTP (file transfer protocol) server name changed. You no longer log onto ftp.arq.net when trying to access your Web site through FTP - you now log onto login.arq.net. If you are using an FTP program that uses a graphical interface like CuteFTP or WSftp, you type in login.arq.net in the "Host Address" field. In addition, you still use your same username and password as you do to log on to your ARQ Internet Connection. Everything remains as before, only the name of the FTP server has changed.

For the first-time FTP'er here are some useful tips:
· Use an FTP program with a graphical interface like CuteFTP or WSftp. These will GREATLY simplify your FTP'ing tasks. Free evaluations of each are available for download off of their respective websites at www.cuteftp.com for the CuteFTP software and at www.ipswitch.com for the WSftp software.
· Type in login.arq.net where it says "Host Address" or "Host Name" in the FTP program of your choice.
· Type in your username and password in the appropriate field (the username field may be called UserID)
· On either the CuteFTP or the WSftp software, you will see two large white windows side-by-side. The left window will contain a list of files and folders on your local machine. The right window will contain a list of files and folders on your web-space here at ARQ. You can "click-and-drag" files from the local machine (your home pc) to the host machine (your ARQ Web-space) - and vice-versa.

For the aspiring web-designer using MSFrontpage, you can upload your web files to your ARQ web-space by following these simple steps:
1. Click on "Publish Web" off of the File drop-down menu in MSFrontpage
2. If you are a business account type in ftp://login.arq.net/web. If you are a personal account, type in ftp://login.arq.net/public_html in the "Specify location to publish you Web" field.
3. Click on the Publish button. Voila!

As always, if you have any questions about these procedures, you can email your questions to support@arq.net.
