Following is a transcription of documents from the Revolutionary War Pension File (R4540) of Gideon Hammond (1757 - 1837). The documents consist of the Declaration of his widow, an affidavit of William B. Wilbur, a record of Gideon's children as referred to in affidavits, and an affidavit of Gideon's son, Asahel Hammond. My thanks to Gabriele Hammond for supplying me with copies of these documents.
DECLARATION
In order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by an act of Congress, passed July 7, 1838 - entitled "An act granting half-pay and pensions to certain widows."

Delaware County
On this 18 day of September in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty-three personally appeared before Lyman Hakes A Judge of Delaware Common Pleas Sarah Hammond a resident of the town of Davenport in the County of Delaware and said State of New York, aged 69 years & upwards who being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on her oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by an act of Congress, passed July of 1838, entitled "an act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows." That she is the widow of Gideon Hammond late of the Town of Delhi in said State of New York who departed this life on the twenty seventh day of May, 1837. That her husband the said Gideon Hammond was a soldier of the United States during the war of the revolution, but as Declarant was not married to him until a number of years thereafter she cannot relate the particulars of the revolutionary services. That she had frequently heard her said husband relate that he served with the Rhode Island troops to which he belonged, and as Declarant believes and Jenks, late a pensioner residing in Otsego, Otsego County New York That previous to the death of the said husband he endeavored to obtain a pension & as Declarant believes, Secured the Services of one Stobby, now in the Post office Department Washington, but that owing to some informality, no pension was allowed. That this Declarant believes that some papers were filed in the matter of his Said Said [sic] application and if so, prays that she may have the benefit thereof
And declarant further saith, That she was married to the said Gideon Hammond on the twentieth day of January seventeen hundred and ninety two by the Baptist Clergyman at Gloucester R. I.: that the following persons were present at her marriage, to wit: Declarants brothers & sisters but Declarant does not know whether any of them are now living -
That previous to her said marriage she resided in the town of Gloucester aforesaid and bore the maiden name of Chase being a daughter of Levi Chase -
That her husband the said Gideon Hammond died as aforesaid on the twenty seventh day of May, Eighteen hundred & thirty seven. That she was not married to him previous to his services, but that her marriage occurred previous to 1794 to wit at the time before stated

William B. Wilbur of the town of Delhi in said County, being duly sworn, deposeth and saith that he is well acquainted with widow Sarah Hammond who resides in the town of Davenport in said County, and is an applicant for a pension - that deponent was also well acquainted with her late husband Gideon Hammond, who died at Delhi aforesaid on or about the seventeenth day of May one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven - That deponent was also well acquainted with Freelove Hammond forty years ago, and at that time she was a girt ten years of age or thereabouts and that she was a child of Gideon and Sarah Hammond as it was reported and believed - and that this deponent was acquainted with Betsey Hammond, Gideon Hammond, Levi Hammond, Mary Hammond, Nathan Hammond, Sarah Hammond, William Hammond, Lorin Hammond, Harriett Hammond and Ruth Hammond, children of said Gideon and Sarah Hammond who were younger than said Freelove Hammond - And deponent further saith that upon many occasions he has had dealings with the said Gideon Hammond, and was acquainted with his hand writing, & that the accompanying record is to the best of the deponents judgment and belief in the hand writing of said Gideon Hammond having as Deponent has been informed and believes been made and preserved by him as and for his family records - and deponent had no doubt that the same contains a true record of the births of their children as there is recorded - and deponent further saith that said record is attached to this page by wafers, and further this deponent saith not

Asahel Hammond of the town of Delhi in said County being duly sworn deposeth and saith that he is the son of Gideon Hammond late of the town of Delhi in said County, that this deponent was present at the marriage of the said Gideon Hammond his father to Sarah Chase in the fall of 1792 by Rev. Elder Stephen Place that at that time this deponent was about fourteen years of age - that the said Sarah Chase was the second wife of the said Gideon Hammond, and that the deponent was a son of Said Gideon Hammond by a former wife to that of the said Sarah Chase and this deponent further saith that Freelove Hammond was the first child of the said Gideon Hammond and his second wife Sarah - and that the said Gideon and Sarah Hammond (formerly Sarah Chase) had ten more children as is set forth on the accompanying records. And this deponent further saith that he has frequently seen the accompanying record in the possession of said Gideon Hammond during his lifetime, and said record was kept by him as his family record - and deponent further saith that the said Sarah Hammond is now a resident of the town of Davenport in said county, and is now an applicant for a pension - and further this deponent saith not.
